NBA All-Star Weekend 2025: Everything You Need to Know

The NBA All-Star Weekend 2025 is just around the corner and promises to be a major talking point. This year, San Francisco has been chosen as the host city for the All-Star Weekend, taking place from February 14 to 16, with the Chase Center as the main venue and a new tournament format that will change the dynamic of the All-Star Game.

New Format of the NBA All-Star Game 2025

For the first time in the event’s history, the All-Star Game will not be a traditional matchup between two teams. Instead, it will be a tournament with four teams competing in a “Final Four” format. The teams will be:

  • Team Shaq (Selected by Shaquille O’Neal)
  • Team Chuck (Selected by Charles Barkley)
  • Team Kenny (Selected by Kenny Smith)
  • Team Candace (Composed of the winners of the Rising Stars Challenge and led by Candace Parker)

Each team will play a semifinal match, and the winners will advance to the grand final. The first team to reach or exceed 40 points in each game will be declared the winner.

NBA All-Star Game 2025 Format in Detail

This year, instead of the traditional East vs. West matchup or the Captain’s Draft, the NBA has opted for a four-team mini-tournament, similar to the Final Four, making the event more competitive and exciting.

How Will It Be Played?

  • Four teams will compete in a “Final Four”-style tournament.
  • Two semifinals → The teams will play against each other in two opening matchups.
  • One final → The winners of each semifinal will face off for the All-Star title.
  • Each game will be played until one team reaches or exceeds 40 points.

How Are the Teams Formed?

  • Team Shaq – Selected by Shaquille O’Neal.
  • Team Chuck – Selected by Charles Barkley.
  • Team Kenny – Selected by Kenny Smith.
  • Team Candace – Formed by the winners of the Rising Stars Challenge (an event featuring the NBA’s top young talents and G-League prospects) and led by Candace Parker.

The 24 All-Star players were divided among the first three teams in a special draft held on February 6, while the final team will be determined after the Rising Stars Challenge on February 14.

Tournament Rules

  • Each game lasts until one team reaches 40 points.
  • There is no game clock, only a target score to be achieved.
  • The winning team of the tournament will receive $125,000 per player as a bonus prize.
  • A total of $1.8 million in prize money will be distributed among the four teams.
